Previously, the general plan, which went into effect in 1997, called for the construction of multiple passenger terminals. San Jose Airport, which has come under fire as woefully inadequate for a major facility serving Silicon Valley, is undergoing a major reconstruction process.

An airport spokeswoman told GlobeSt that City Council members would vote on the passenger-terminal issue in a later session. She called tonight's meeting a "study session," saying public comment would be taken into consideration in the vote.

Other major related projects under discussion will be public transportation to the airport, improvements to nearby Highway 87, and other area road upgrades. Transportation issues have become key considerations during the airport's revamp as traffic outside the facility grows continually worse.
