Constructed in the 1920s, the building was purchased by its former owners in 1955, according to Marcia Rose Yawitz, a director at Eastern Consolidated Properties, who represented the seller and acquired the buyer. Ike Kaplowitz, Esq. dealt for West End Avenue Realty.

Approximately 75% of the major apartment buildings with 40 units or more on West End Avenue and Riverside Drive from 70th to 96th Street have been converted to cooperatives or condominiums. The scarcity of high-caliber properties in this area is thought to have motivated the buyers to move quickly on the sale, Yawitz says. They entered into a contact within a week of inspecting the building.
