In the wake of dull holiday sales and recent retail closures, the chains that Related had been talking to for the three anchor slots have all ended those discussions, forcing the developer itself to drop out. The potential anchors were not named.
That may open the way for the runner-up to Related in the face-off for development rights, a joint venture of locally-based Dickerson & Dickerson Construction and North Jersey Development Group, to move in. The partners have an entirely different kind of project in mind--a 340,000-sf mix of office, warehouse and manufacturing facilities. Estimated cost is $22.5 million.
The 73-acre site operated as a landfill from the 1930's to the 1970's. An agreement is in place for clean-up of the site, with any developer responsible for meeting state requirements.
