Lighthouse Bay is one component of the community's redevelopment plan, according to South Amboy mayor Jack O'Leary. Other ongoing efforts include an upgrade of the business district and transportation improvements.
The development site is near the city's train station, which has seen growing traffic created by New York-bound commuters. The city has already secured close to $50 million in state and federal grants to facilitate station upgrades.
