A driver parks their car, which is moved away and parked by a series of elevators and moving floors. The Broad Group of Detroit, developers of the 250,000-sf project, said the garage costs about the same as a normal parking structure, only it makes more money because it can park twice the number of cars.
The process is already used in warehouse storage facilities across the country. It is only used with cars at a pilot site in Spain.
Condominium unit prices will be $250,000 to $500,000. The project will cost $30 million. Commissioners are expected to review the preliminary plans for the project Feb. 12.
