Officials for Costco, a San Diego-based retail chain, say they would more than likely tear down the existing HomeBase building and build a new, larger structure. Although Costco officials like their current location at the Vallecitos Town Center, they would prefer to expand and improve parking with a larger building and site.

City officials also are working with Tone Yee Investments, the Rancho Cucamonga-based company that is the majority owner of the 45-acre shopping center.

HomeBase announced last month that it is changing its name to House2Home and will focus on home decorations, rather than home improvement and building materials. The San Marcos location is the only location of five in San Diego County that will be shut down rather than converted.
