Tired of waiting, city officials led by Mayor Christian Bollwage fired Sea Crest on the basis of failure to live up to the terms of the agreement. Officials cite missed deadlines and unsuitable plans.
Sea Crest has fought back on the legal front. A suit to regain its contract position is underway, and in the interim a Superior Court judge has ruled that Elizabeth can't replace Sea Crest in the meantime. For its part, Sea Crest management is charging that many of the delays in the project were the city's fault. A representative of the city has indicated publicly that city will try to get the stalemate mediated.
