"Stony Point will be a community focal point serving local customerswith a mix of better stores," says Steve Kieras, Taubman vice presidentof development. "Our new plans call for a smaller, more focused retailcomponent along with complementary residential and office uses."

Dillard's had previously announced its participation in an earlier StonyPoint proposal featuring 1.2 million sf of retail space. "Over the lastseveral years, we have made a tremendous commitment to the Richmond andTidewater areas," says William Dillard, II, chief executive officer.

"We expressed interest in the Stony Point project from the beginning," he adds, "andhave remained a part of the project as it changed over the years becauseit offers us an exciting opportunity to better serve the communities inSouth Richmond and the remainder of the market."

Taubman Centers Inc., headquartered in Bloomfield Hills, MI owns ormanages 27 shopping centers in 12 states. Five more centers are underconstruction: Dolphin Mall in Miami, International Plaza in Tampa, FL andThe Mall at Wellington Green in Palm Beach County, FL. The Shops atWillow Bend, TX will open in 2001. The Mall at Millenia inOrlando, FL will open in 2002.
