According to a published report, C&S has circulated documents to two locals of the United Food and Commercial Workers indicating that it intends to sell all but three of the stores it still has. A number of them will be sold to other supermarket operators, according to the report, and several will end up being utilized for non-food purposes, such as drug or discount stores. Disposition of the three stores C&S will retain has not been disclosed.

In New Jersey and suburban New York, the casualties total 27 stores and 1,400 jobs. According to the documents circulated to the unions, all of the stores will close early on March 3 for inventory, and going-out-of-business sales will start a day later. All will be shuttered by April 1.
