LA JOLLA, CA-Financial analysts, who are predicting a nationwide recession have got it wrong, at least when it comes to the financial health of San Diego County and the rest of Southern California, contends a leading economist.

Dr. Edward Leamer, a former Harvard law professor and current director of forecast for the UCLA Anderson School of Economics, told guests attending yesterday’s Chicago Title Presidents Forum and 2001 Economic Forecast, held at the La Jolla Marriott that “the future looks good for all of Southern California compared to the rest of the nation.”

“Contrary to some pundits predicting doom and gloom, San Diego County and the region is practically immune from a significant economic downturn, if you study the most significant economic benchmarks others have completely overlooked,” Learner said.
