Intel office developments, meanwhile, remain on hold. In January, the Santa Clara, CA-based chipmaker said it will be postponing all office projects around the world due to the slowing economy. The work stoppage included infrastructure work for its $400 million West Union R&D campus on 92 acres near Highway 26 and Cornelius Pass Road the chipmaker has agreed to purchase from Westmark Properties. The first or four buildings were scheduled to open late next year.

Intel Oregon spokesman Bill MacKenzie told GlobeSt.com in January the cutbacks will not affect its commitment to occupy two of three 52,000-sf flex-office buildings under construction in Birtcher Real Estate Group's 213-acre AmberGlen Business Center in Hillsboro. MacKenzie further told GlobeSt.com there is "no expectation that this will affect any other lease arrangements we have at this time" in Oregon and that "no other announced office projects (in Oregon) are on hold."

Elsewhere, in Folsom, the company has halted construction on a 400,000-sf office and R&D building, and will close its Puerto Rico operation. At its campus in Chandler, AZ, Intel is postponing construction on a four-story, 320,000-sf office building, while work continues on an adjacent $2-billion, 360,000-sf fabrication plant. And in Hudson, MA, Intel is pushing ahead with plans to build a $250-million, 360,000-sf addition to its microchip plant on Reed Road.
