With the consummation of the bankruptcy, UA's president and CEO Kurt Hall says, "We can now focus our full attention on rebuilding our key locations, continuing to improve our operating performance and rejuvenating the United Artists franchise." UA can now reject or accept leases and other contracts that it is renegotiating.
The Anschutz Corp., controlled by billionaire Philip Anschutz, the sixth richest person in the US, now controls the company. As of Jan. 22, United Artists had been operating 216 theaters with 1,604 screens, making it the sixth-largest movie theater company in the nation.
