Suburban City Significantly Increases Fees for Developers

GRESHAM, OR-The City Council here approved an 18% hike in building permit fees and more than doubled the cost of some planning and engineering services. The rate changes are effective April 1.

GRESHAM, OR-Hurry up and get that building permit application in. Effective April 1, this city will increase building permit fees by 18% and more than double the price of some planning and engineering services. The City Council approved the rate hike 4-to-1 Tuesday night.

The increased fees are on top of existing system development charges. As an example, the city says its fee for reviewing plans for an 18,500-sf office building is rising from $3,560 to $10,590.

As well, developers now will be paying 32% of the cost of planning and engineering reviews and inspections, whereas before, says the city, developers were paying closer to 23% and 11% of those costs, respectively.
