Hal Sumrall, a marketing authority on small business startups and international trade for 25 years, is leaving the EDC to go into business for himself. Darrell Kelley, the EDC's president, previously announced his resignation to become president and chief operating officer of Milcom Technologies Inc. in suburban Maitland, FL.
Sumrall and Kelley will leave the organization March 30. Their EDC salaries are over $60,000 per year. EDC officials have a short list of candidates for both positions and will make them public within the next few weeks, they tell GlobeSt.com.
Over the past five years, the EDC has helped at least 300 companies relocate, expand or make an aggregate $6 billion in capital investment in Central Florida, according to the commission. Its efforts resulted in the creation of 34,000 new jobs and the construction or leasing of 19 million sf of commercial space.
Sumrall, 69, is starting the Sumrall Group, a small-business consulting firm. He has been with EDC since 1991 and helped the commission create its first marketing department on international trade. He was director of international development for the Orlando Regional Chamber of Commerce from 1985 to 1991.
