The city attorney asked the court to validate the city council's previous decisions on the proposed redevelopment project in a lawsuit filed in San Diego Superior Court on Wednesday.

The move is an attempt to preempt ballpark foes who oppose use of public money in the redevelopment project. The council decidedTuesday to reaffirm 28 previous votes taken on the ballpark project that may have been tainted by improper financial dealings by Councilwoman Valerie Stallings.

If the judge agrees with the city, future legal challenges against the project would be hamstrung. In all, a dozen lawsuits have been filed against the project. Although the city won all of them, nine are being appealed.
