Safety of Entrance to Industrial Park Questioned

SOUTHEAST KANSAS CITY, MO-As many as 40 trains a day block the entrance to an industrial off 75th Terrace, sometimes for as much as an hour at a time. The issue to be addressed at March 28 conference.

SOUTHEAST KANSAS CITY, MO-A 50-acre industrial park in southeast Kansas City is struggling to convince the Missouri Division of Motor Carrier and Railroad Safety to build a new access road to the park. Currently, there is only one entrance, off of 75th Terrace, to the park and the roadway in becoming blocked more and more often with an increase of train traffic along Union Pacific Railroad.

Among the tenants in the park is The Salvajor Co., which employs about 50 people at the commercial food-waste manufacturing plant. A company spokesperson says as many as 40 trains a day are blocking the entrance, sometimes for as much as an hour at a time. The concern is access not only for employs, but for emergency vehicles as well.
