Council Approves 85,000-SF Drake Marble Project

ST. PAUL, MN-Northwest Area Foundation will be the main tenant in the building, which will be renovated by local developer Steve Wellington. The city would contribute $2.7 million in tax-increment financing for the $8-million project.

ST. PAUL, MN-St. Paul developer Steve Wellington is ready go with plans to rehabilitate the nearly century-old Drake Marble Building near the West Side Flats here now that the city council has approved his development agreement. Wellington plans to rehabilitate the 6.5-acre site just north of Plato Boulevard and west of Robert Street into 85,000 sf of office space.

The site includes four acres he purchased for $55,000 from the St. Paul Port Authority in January.

The main tenant in the renovated Drake Building would be the Northwest Area Foundation, and the overall office space is expected to bring 200 jobs to the West Side site.
