A consortium of doctors from the Barrow Neurological Institute is planning to build a seven-story, $25-million medical office building on the campus at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center at Thomas Road and Third Street in Phoenix.

Development of the 145,000-sf medical office building will be financed by a joint venture made up of the developer and tenant physicians. Five undisclosed developers that specialize in medical facilities have submitted bids.

The building will consolidate the more than 60 physicians affiliated with Barrow Neurological Institute, who have their offices on the St. Joe's campus or nearby. The neuroscience medical building will allow them to all work under one roof.

The building will house physician offices, outpatient clinics and an education center. The building is expected to be completed in two years.

Other construction projects are expected on the St. Joseph's campus. The board of the hospital, which is owned by Catholic Healthcare West, could soon approve a $110-million master site plan that would add a new seven-story patient tower with 128 beds, as well as a new operating rooms and emergency department. Construction is also set to begin this summer on a $5-million renovation of the Children's Rehabilitative Services building on the campus.
