Bandera Pointe Anchors Open Doors

SAN ANTONIO-The three major anchors of the 650,000-sf Bandera Pointe shopping center, one of three power centers currently under construction in San Antonio, have opened.The newly opened anchors are a 174,000-sf Super Target, 28,438-sf Ross Dress for Less and 135,000-sf Lowes Home improvement warehouse. The Super Target and the Lowes are both firsts for the San Antonio market. Bandera Pointe is a development of Ohio-based Diversified and Dallas-based David Berndt Interests Inc.

“This is located in the two or three fastest-growing zip codes in the city,” David Berndt, president of Berndt Interests Inc., tells GlobeSt.com. “What we tend to do is to look for those areas that are below the area’s retail growth and target those markets for development.”

Bandera Pointe is much larger than most power centers, located on 100 acres at the intersection of State Loop 1604 and Bandera Road. The site will eventually be home to 800,000 sf of retail and restaurants. Even as tenants are moving into the first phase over the next three months, a second 125,000-sf retail phase of Bandera Pointe is being developed. Construction of the second phase is expected to begin in about five months, says Kevin Avondet, development partner of Berndt Interests.
