The 68,500-seat stadium is expected to cost between $450 million and $500 million. Under the Vikings' suggested plan, Vikings owner Red McCombs would pay $100 million, the National Football League would pay $51.5million, with the rest coming in some way from public funds.
Given the number of issues already before the Minnesota Legislature, including a proposal for a new ballpark for the Minnesota Twins, the proposal is not expected to be taken up by the this session. In addition, university officials are already facing a budget battle with Gov. Jesse Ventura, and do not plan to lobby for the plan this year.
