DENVER-Developers have broken ground on the first phase of the $80-million WorldPort, an air cargo facility at the Denver International Airport. WorldPort is the airport’s first “through the fence” cargo operation. That means it actually is on airport land instead of around it.

The development’s first phase consists of three buildings totaling 205,000 sf. Eventually, it will have 504,500 sf in seven buildings and 420,00 sf of airport ramp situated on 77 acres.

Murray Platt, who is leasing the project with fellow Grubb & Ellis Co. broker Mike Wafer, tells GlobeSt.com that they have letters of intent from several tenants who want space in the first building. Platt says cargo space is increasingly in short supply at the airport and WorldPort will provide the facilities to meet the demand.
