Privately held Harbor Resorts and publicly traded WestCoast announced Thursday an agreement wherein White Pine and Harbor's popular Selkirk Lodge will be added to WestCoast's system of hotels. Selkrik is located in the ski resort's ski-in, ski-out main village. The new development, also planned for the main villagel, is the first phase of Harbor's 10-year plan for the year-round destination village.

Saturday, at Spokane's landmark Davenport Hotel, interested buyers from throughout the Pacific Northwest have pre-scheduled appointments to view detailed floor plans and model units of the 75,000-sf White Pine Lodge. Once sold, owners are expected to enter their units into a rental pool for lease and rent to the public.

"Traditionally, recreational units are sold through a supply-and-demand process,'' said Ron Cook, president of Harbor Resorts. "White Pine Lodge has resulted in a case where the demand seems to have outnumbered the supply."

The lodge, located at what will be the heart of Harbor's Schweitzer Mountain Village, will feature 48 fully furnished one-, two- and three-bedroom condominiums with sweeping views of Lake Pend Oreille, the Cabinet Mountains and surrounding slopes of Schweitzer Mountain. The residential units are priced between $221,000 and $675,000.

The lodge also will offer plaza-level ski lockers, a lounge with big screen TV and wet bar, two outdoor hot tubs, equipment for cardiovascular and strength training workouts, and well as restaurants and covered parking. Spokane-based Lydig Construction will handle construction.

A subsidiary of Seattle-based Harbor Properties Inc., Harbor Resorts' portfolio includes three regional ski resorts – Idaho's Schweitzer Mountain and central Washington's Stevens Pass and Mission Ridge – offering a combined 5,775 acres of skiable terrain. Harbor Properties manages 460,000 sf of commercial office and retail space and 1.6 million sf of apartment space in Seattle.

WestCoast has 45 hotels and more than 8,000 hotel rooms in nine western states, including 32 hotels in Washington, Idaho, Oregon and Montana. The company says its 110 sales agents will soon be sending visitors to Schweitzer on a four-season basis.

"WestCoast currently serves over 1,000 companies system-wide that occupy more than 10 room nights per year each," says Lori Farnell, vice president of sales and marketing for WestCoast. "Additionally, WestCoast's top tour and travel companies occupied approximately 110,000 room nights in 2000. We have a strong customer base that seeks leisure and business retreat opportunities, and Schweitzer can offer year-round fulfillment of these needs."
