Rule Change Unburdens Land Optioned by Resort

BEND, OR-Sunriver Resort LP asked for and received rules changes that prohibited development of the 376 acres immediately south of its 3,000-acre resort here. It has an option for half of the land and reportedly is seeking to option more of it.

BEND, OR-Rule changes this week by Deschutes County commissioners have legally cleared for development 379 acres south of Sunriver Resort. Sunriver Resort LP asked for the change because it has an option on half of the land, and reportedly is negotiating with the owner of another chunk.

The changes made county commissioners include repealing a 1979 ban on development within wildlife areas designated by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife. The DFW has designated the land as part of a deer migration corridor, but the designation never prohibited development, only the county’s 1979 ban.
