Both hotels are transformations. The 556-room W Chicago - Lakeshore is a renovation of a former Days Inn on Lake Shore Drive. The 390-room W Chicago - City Center is a makeover of the historic Midland Hotel on at Adams and Wells Streets in the Loop, one block from the LaSalle Street financial district.
W Chicago – Lakeshore's 33rd-floor "Altitude" will offer panoramic views of Lake Michigan, nearby Navy Pier and the city as it rotates 360 degrees. W Chicago - City Center will offer 11 meetings rooms totaling 12,000 sf, including a 4,200-sf ballroom with 25-foot ceiling. Original woodworking, ceiling details and fireplace have been preserved.
"Chicago has long been an enthusiastic town that has emerged as one of the hottest in the world," says Starwood Chairman and CEO Barry Sternlicht. "The city is a place of unrepressed vision, giving of itself generously, without attitude or restraint, just like our hotels. We are ecstatic to be entering into this new market, as this is the perfect place to continue to evolve the W brand."
