Detroit Architect's Work Featured in Book

DETROIT-Publisher l’Arca Edizioni of Milan, Italy, has produced “Albert Kahn Associates — Continuing the Legacy,” a monograph on Albert Kahn Associates, Inc. (AKA). The book is one of only 50 volumes by l’Arca that feature the work of some of the world’s most interesting architects.

The 144-page, color, oversized book showcases an exclusive group of recent AKA projects selected by the editorial staff of l’Arca. Those projects include the Detroit Opera House, for which the firm was recently awarded a 2001 Honor Award from The American Institute of Architects; the M-Class Assembly Plant for Mercedes-Benz US International, Tuscaloosa County, AL; and Providence Medical Center, Novi, MI, where AKA’s most recent completion, the Assarian Cancer Center, features innovative “healing” architecture.

Also pictured with a series of computer generated renderings is the just-completed Oakland University Elliott Hall of Business and Information Technology. AKA’s work for The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, is represented in the volume. These projects include the Media Union, East Ann Arbor Health Center and University Hospital, all which have won design awards for the firm.
