County Acquires Eastside Apartments

BELLEVUE, WA-With the help of money partner Columbia Housing, the King County Housing Authority acquired the Somerset Gardens apartment complex here and will keep the units affordable to workers too often priced out of the community in which they work.

BELLEVUE, WA-Apartments in this high-tech corridor are not only expensive to build, but the rents needed to support the buildings have priced many service workers out of the market they serve. To help keep things affordable, the King County Housing Authority and equity investor Columbia Housing have acquired and spent $3.8 million refurbishing 54-units at the Somerset Gardens apartment complex here.

“There is a critical need for affordable apartments in Bellevue, especially for larger families,” said Bellevue Mayor Chuck Mosher. “We have all seen the loss of affordable units in Crossroads and other neighborhoods. Where will teachers, clerks and service workers live?
