"The demand for natural gas throughout eastern Virginia and North Carolina continues to grow at a rate exceeding the national average," Gary Lauderdale, general manager of Houston-based Williams Transco pipeline, says in a prepared statement.
A Williams division is soliciting interest in expanding the capacity of its South Virginia line for year-round transportation services. The expansion would extend from Hertford County, NC to Pittsylvania County in Virginia.
The demand for natural gas in the South Atlantic region is expected to increase at a rate of about 3.4% per year over the next decade, says the Energy Information Administration.
Williams also has offices in Salt Lake City and Owensboro, KY. Its Transco unit serving the North Carolina area is reviewing the levels of market commitment, configuration, capacity and capital cost of a proposed project.
Williams's natural gas pipelines are one of the nation's largest-volume transporters of natural gas, delivering about 16% of the natural gas consumed in the U.S. The company's 29,200-mile pipeline network stretches from coast to coast with access to major supply basins throughout the country.
Williams, through its subsidiaries, also delivers communications products such as high-speed fiber-optic cables.
