The £200 million development will see the existing Victorian buildings replaced with a dramatic new structure designed by Foster & Partners. And by extending the scheme onto a site in Meymott Street, London SE1, currently occupied by a car park, Sainsbury's will be able to virtually double the amount of office space it owns in the area.
The launch of the project comes as Sainsbury's prepared to move all of its head office functions into its new base at Holborn Circus in the City of London. The company has yet to decide whether or not to return to Stamford Street on completion of the redevelopment in 2004.
