Region's Population Center Moves Northwest

DETROIT-The 2000 census confirms a migration of Detroiters. The theoretical center of the seven-county region now is near 8 Mile Road and Stahelin. The expectation is commercial development is soon to follow.

This continues the region's longtime trend of expanding northwest, a geographic necessity of being bounded by water and a foreign border to the southeast, say SEMCOG officials.

The council is a non-profit organization that assists Detroit area cities with land development, transportation and environmental issues.
