The company has developed almost $1 billion in projects. Current ventures include low and mid-rise apartments in Atlantic Station, which is expected to be one of the area's largest developments in the past half-century.

The company's divisions include Lane Realty Advisors, which has acquired more than $100 million of property since 1995; Realty Construction Corp., which has built 7,500 apartment units and condos valued at $456 million; Lane Company, which manages more than 32,000 apartment units across the southeast; and Lane Company Realty Marketing Corp., which has completed and sold more than 2,000 units in 20 communities throughout the metro Atlanta area.

David Wilkening began his long journalism career as a police reporter for Chicago-area newspapers. He became a writer-editor for major newspapers in Chicago, Washington, Detroit and Florida.
