The $2.3-million park will become the centerpiece of the Ballard Municipal Center Master Plan. The design firm of Bohlin Cywinski Jackson already has been retained to submit ideas for the library and service center.
The former Ballard Safeway, which sat on 1.5 acres at 22nd Avenue Northwest and Northwest 57th Street, was purchased by city cumulative reserve funds. The purchase was the latest of several improvements for the neighborhood, including the remodeling of the landmark Bay Theatre and the construction of new condominium and multi-family housing units in the neighborhood.
