The Nashville, TN-based health care services company received permission last month from the Palm Beach County Development Review Committee to build 62,968-sf of medical office space, a 3,000-sf child daycare center and facilities for 40 new hospital beds.
"They had plans for a nursing home with 125 rooms, but that is being deleted, at their own request," Fusun Mutgan, the committee's principal planner, tells GlobeSt.com. "For whatever reason, they did not want to proceed with that."
Pending approval on building permits, a hospital spokesman tells GlobeSt.com, work should begin this summer on the expansion.
Officials at Palms West cite population estimates in justifying the expansion. Located 10 miles west of West Palm Beach, FL, the hospital serves a population of 618,510 residents, which is expected to grow by 12% by 2007.
