The new hotel will be built next to the existing 470-room Omni Hotel at CNN Center. Completion is expected in late 2003. The expansion will bring 1,070 rooms to the center.
Turner Broadcasting announced the Downtown tower and Midtown projects almost a year ago. The Downtown Tower is planned atop the Philips Arena parking garage.
Construction plans have been delayed due to a declining advertising market and the merger of parent company Time Warner with AOL, which led to a refocusing of priorities, according to Turner executives.
