The Weitzman Group's David Nicolson, executive vice president, has represented Marshall's in its signing and Sherman Hinkebine, also a vice president, has negotiated a pact for Bed, Bath & Beyond. Each lease totals about 32,000 sf. The stores will open in the fall, GlobeSt.com has been told.
The retailers along with Academy Sports, which has signed for 52,000 sf, will take up all but about 4,000 sf of the center's expansion. The retail property, owned by Barshop & Oles of San Antonio, is situated in one of the city's fastest-growing retail corridors. The Loop 1604 property is part of 1.6-million sf of retail space that will be delivering this year within a three-mile radius of the intersection of Loop 1604 and Texas 281, according to the Weitzman Group. The submarket already is home to 800,000 sf of retail.
Northwood will be providing space for the only Academy Sports along the loop and the fourth store in San Antonio. For Marshall's, it will be the fourth San Antonio location and Bed, Bath & Beyond's third.
Also along Loop 1604, Borders Books and Music is building a 22,000-sf store at the Forum in the city's northeast submarket. Borders, based in Ann Arbor, MI will open in mid-July and be the city's third for the retail chain. The Forum is located at the loop's intersection with Interstate 35 and has more 1.2 million sf under roof. The Forum is a redeveloped property that opened last year and saved the submarket from recording a 23% retail vacancy.
