The voluntary service is designed for customers who use 500 kilowatts or more. The DEC service allows users to earn financial rewards by reducing electric usage during peak demand periods. In exchange, they receive credits from the company.

Georgia Power is the largest subsidiary of Southern Company, one of the nation's largest generators of electricity. The company is an investor-owned, tax-paying utility that services 57,000 of the state's 59,000 square miles. Georgia Power rates are 15% below the national average, according to the company's prepared statement.
