Daley also says his budget will have more money -- $125,000 rather than the previous $50,000 – in Community Development Block Grant funds for a home-repair program for senior citizens. So far, 40 homes have been repaired but 82 persons are on a waiting list.

The senior centers provide a place for seniors to socialize, learn computer skills, exercise and have lunch.

The city has developed almost 3,000 units of senior rental housing, part of a plan to invest more than $700 million in local, state and federal funds to create or preserve another 18,000 units of affordable housing.
