The Sam's Club interior remodel building permit calls for redoing the 107,623-sf existing structure and adding another 25,521 sf onto the building at 4970 US 290 West, a city official tells GlobeSt.com. Sam's Club will be sharing a retail plaza with tenants such as Best Buy, Applebee's and Academy Sports.
There is a Wal-Mart just across the street in keeping with past practice to build close to each other. The Sam's Club project will put the fourth warehouse club into the Austin region. Others are located along Interstate 35, 9700 N. Capital of Texas Highway and 130 Sundance Parkway in Round Rock.
South Town Square is located in a high-density retail area. The Sam's Club site had been HQ Lumber Supply and before that, a Builders Square. Pyramid Properties of Austin holds the management pact for South Town Square.
The up and coming Austin Sam's Club is bolstered by two grand openings this week in Houston at 10488 Old Katy Rd. and 7950 FM 1960 West. The openings take the warehouse clubs to a total of 58 in Texas.
