O'Brien had been the managing director of GE Capital Real Estate. His duties included e-commerce investments, new program and strategic alliance development and debt program management. His GE Capital tenure also included holding the CFO reins for the Americas business unit of GE Capital Real Estate. O'Brien's background includes management stints with JP Morgan Inc. and KPMG Peat Marwick.
FelCor president and CEO Thomas J. Corcoran Jr. says O'Brien's "significant experience in various types of debt and equity transactions" brings "substantial value to FelCor and its integration with MeriStar Hospitality."
FelCor's hotel portfolio consists of 186 hotels, equating to about 50,000 rooms and suites primarily in the upscale, full-service segment. It has a current market capitalization of about $3.6 billion.
