The Pilsen neighborhood also will be home to CenterPoint Properties' $58-million, 26-acre Chicago International Produce Market at 26th Street and Blue Island Avenue.
American Linen will reuse 11,000 sf of recently constructed storage and truck maintenance space at 2665 S. Leavitt Ave. while rehabilitating 10,000 sf of existing office space and demolishing the existing garage and freight terminal.
The $3.5 million comes in the form of Tax Increment Financing, which the company will use to buy land, do the required rehabilitation and demolition as well as conduct job training.
"We are turning a vacant, neglected and underutilized site into an employment opportunity for the people of Pilsen," says Mayor Richard M. Daley.
Meanwhile, the new Pilsen facility will help American Linen serve existing markets in St. Louis and Springfield as well as expand into Indianapolis and the Quad Cities.
