The 77-year-old building has been empty for five years since Lake Abstract closed its books after operating at three area locations since it was founded in 1877. Tavares is 35 miles northwest of Downtown Orlando.
The price the law firm paid for the structure and the cost of the renovations couldn't be immediately learned. The single-story building has 11-foot ceilings, eight-foot high doors and steel beams. General contractor Harvey Spears, who is completing renovations, describes the building as having the structural strength of a mini-fortress.
