Guanajuato's governor, Juan Carlos Romero Hicks, has moved the operations from a former site in Los Angeles to the Santa Ana location at 900 N. Broadway. Guanajuato, which is located in the central region of Mexico, is the most recent state to establish a trade office at the Santa Ana site. Ten Mexican states already occupy the center, which was opened in March by Mexican President Vicente Fox.
Santa Ana's Mexico Trade Center is aimed at strengthening trade relations between the US and Mexico. It caters to small businesses that want to gain contacts and instruction in trade techniques and financing in Mexico. Santa Ana has had close contact with Mexico in recent years, as the country was Orange County's top trading partner in 1999 and continues to be extremely active in the region.
