Moose Look bought the largest resident in Lake County--Casa de la Loma (House on the Hill--from Amway Corp. distributor Terry McEwen for a so-far unrecorded price.
J.P. King Auction Co. of Gadsden, AL, which organized the June 5 auction on the property, refuses to disclose the price and further identification of the buyer.
But real estate lawyers following the transaction and Lake County brokers intimate with the deal tell GlobeSt.com on condition of anonymity the recorded price will be in the area of $6.4 million or $200 per sf, the estimated original construction cost of the 10-year-old, 32,000-sf, 160-acre property.
Lake County tax collector Bob McKee's office confirms the property's taxable value is $2.66 million.
Title insurance representatives in Orange County tell GlobeSt.com the property hasn't formally closed because the buyer is still lining up financing. Moose Look Holdings' chief executive is known only as Tari MacNamara.
Moose Look purportedly purchased the property to either lease out or use the estate itself for corporate entertainment affairs, catering sources in Orange County familiar with the secretive transaction tell GlobeSt.com.
The estate has seven bedrooms; eight bathrooms; a 200-guest capacity ballroom; a Scottish-themed pub; a three-hole Professional Golf Association golf course; two commercial-sized gourmet kitchens; a movie theater; a 3,200-sf swimming pool; basketball, tennis and volleyball courts; and a climate-controlled wine cellar.
The mansion is built on a 90-foot hill overlooking Lake Lucy, off County Road 565 near Groveland, FL. The architectural motif of the residence itself resembles a miniature Hilton or Marriott Hotel.
The June 5 auction was curtailed at the last minute when Moose Look representatives made a cash offer to McEwen, who is relocating with his family to Colorado. Seventeen bidders, who arrived from around the world, driving onto the property in Rolls Royces and BMWs, never had a chance to bid on the estate.
