The 54-year-old grocer is considering opening an estimated 30,000-sf store at State Road 50 and Villa City Road, 32 miles west of Downtown Orlando. The hard-cost construction investment would be at least $2 million, construction industry estimators tell GlobeSt.com.
Kash n' Karry hasn't closed on the property purchase and the city of Groveland awaits approval for a $450,000 state community development block grant to pay for an extended sewer line to a proposed three-store, 55,000-sf strip center.
Kash n' Karry was established in 1947 in Plant City, FL, the strawberry capital of the state. The grocer became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Food Lion Inc. in 1996.
Today, the 140-store, 11,000-employee Kash n' Karry is part of publicly traded Delhaize America, a wholly owned subsidiary of Delhaize Le Lion (Delhaize Group), an international food retailer based in Brussels, Belgium.
