On the corner of Donlon Way and Dublin Boulevard lies a strip mall that is more than 30 years old. Its owner, the Berkeley Land Company, recently proposed to build a three-story office building, since the shopping center has been slated for demolition.
The proposal seemed to be a sure thing, as the land is zoned for office use. However, city officials and community members who are eager to expand the theme started by the nearby Dublin Heritage by building a neighborhood park instead have resisted the Berkeley Land Company's plan.
The park would be surrounded by a refurbished cemetery and museum. City council members expressed a strong interest in restoring the property's historical roots -- even to the point where it's considering condemning the property.
