Protest Stops Gas Station, Convenience Store

FERNDALE, MI-Residents don't want a convenience store near their homes, and their protest to the city council succeeds in defeating a proposal for one on the corner of Woodward Avenue and Oakridge Street.

However residents convinced the council the proposed land use would detract from the desirability of residential and business uses in the area. The council unanimously denied a special land use approval. One of the petition signers was a Mobil station owner, who says he didn't want competition so close to his store less than a mile from the site.
