Consolidated, the nation's third largest trucking company, says it will raise general freight rates by 5.1% and its minimum shipment cost by $5 to offset higher costs for insurance, wages, fuel and equipment.

Viking Freight, FedEx's San Jose-based trucking unit, says it will raise its general freight rate by 5.9% on Aug. 6. The company says the increase will apply to Viking's intra- and interstate traffic, including Canada transborder and Mexico border shipments, as well as to minimum and accessorial charges. Various additional adjustments will be made to selected lanes and service areas.
