Spartan Opens 1st Store After Ashcroft Buy

HARRISON, MI-Spartan Stores Inc., which acquired Ashcroft's Markets two years ago, now owns 127 stores in Michigan and Ohio as it refocuses on being a grocery retailer with the opening of Glen's Market here.

The company currently owns 127 grocery and drug stores.

"This new store represents our commitment to being a grocery retailer," says James B. Meyer, chairman of the company. "In just two years, Spartan has become a major retailer in Michigan and Ohio."

The new store is located on the business end of US 27. Progressive AE designed and managed the construction.
