A developer from Medford has reportedly agreed to buy the property in West Eugene from Boise, ID-based Waremart WinCo Foods Inc. for an undisclosed amount. The developer is John Batzer of Batzer Inc., a commercial and industrial construction firm. Batzer could not be reached to confirm the story. The deal is said to have a Sept. 30 deadline and to be contingent upon project approval and a signed 20,000-sf lease deal with the state Department of Administrative Services. Retail tenants would fill the remaining 10,000 sf.

The cost of renovation is said to be in the $2-million range. The would-be tenants, currently located in 15,000 sf at 2175 W. Seventh Ave., are the state departments of Human Services and Justice.

Assuming the deal goes through, the plan is to start renovation work in January and have the offices ready for the state workers by next summer.
