''The EDA grant will help Aurora promote the redevelopment ofthe former Fitzsimons Army Medical Center into a commercial andindustrial business hub by providing funding for the constructionof a roadway to serve the area,'' says David Bearden, activeassistant secretary for economic development.

The EDA works in collaboration with local governments andcommunity groups. Its mission is to generate new jobs, help retainexisting jobs, and stimulate industrial and commercial growth ineconomically distressed communities. EDA funds are available toboth rural and urban areas experiencing high unemployment,low-income or other severe economic problems.

The grant to Aurora is funded under EDA's eonomic adjustmentprogram, which helps states and communities develop plans to lessenthe adverse impact of changes in their economic situation thateither are causing, or threatening to cause, severe economicdistress.
