In addition to the 80,000-sf headquarters, Smith & Nephewreportedly intends to expand its facilities here. The building thatcurrently serves as the headquarters will become a 110,000-sfmanufacturing facility. In addition, the company's 60,000-sfmanufacturing facility in Mansfield will be expanded by 40,000 sf.The company also has a manufacturing and research and developmentfacility in Oklahoma City. The endoscopy division, which wasformerly Dyonics, Inc., is a business unit of Smith & NephewPLC.

The company, which employs 1,000 people, had considered movingout of state a number of years ago but local and state officialswere able to convince the company to stay. Reportedly, one of theissues for the company was receiving approval for a sewer hook-up.That approval recently came through, after years ofnegotiations.
